Dorchester Detention Center Releases
Dorchester County Detention Center is the county’s local adult jail. A pretrial detainee may leave after recognizance, bond, or another court-ordered condition. A locally sentenced person may complete a term, receive lawful credit for time served, enter an authorized program, or be released to probation. In these cases, the person may return to the community subject to any conditions in the court record.
Other exits are transfers, not community releases. Maryland DOC, another county acting on a warrant, federal authorities, immigration custody, treatment, or a hospital may receive the person. The release transaction’s type and destination are therefore as important as its date. “Released from Dorchester” describes the end of this facility’s hold, not freedom from every authority.

Confirm Dorchester Detention Center Release
The official Sheriff web and app feed answers a limited question: whether a person is currently displayed with an “IN” status. It does not publish release dates, release reasons, “OUT” records, or a recent-release window. A missing name must not be translated into “released.” Use multiple channels and report each result in the narrow terms the source supports.

Dorchester Detention Center Records
The Department of Corrections operates the facility and is the likely custodian for its booking, movement, release, and booking-photo records. The Sheriff publishes the current feed but has not operated the jail since county oversight changed in 1992. Direct a release-record inquiry to County Corrections rather than assuming the Sheriff holds the custody transaction.

Name the exact record. Ask for the booking and release transaction for the identified person and approximate custody dates, including release date and time, release authority or type, destination or receiving agency, and case or warrant number where releasable. If a booking photograph is also needed, request it separately. Ask for electronic delivery, redaction of exempt material instead of total withholding, and a cost estimate.
The form says the custodian may have up to 30 days to supply records and issues a written statement within 10 working days when denial is decided. The FY2026 schedule lists the first page free, later black-and-white pages at $0.25, color pages at $0.50, and the first two research hours free. Additional research is $30 per hour. About Dorchester Detention Center
The Dorchester County Department of Corrections operates a male and female, minimum-to-maximum-security local facility for people awaiting trial and people serving local sentences. A 2024 Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards audit provides a dated May 2023 snapshot. It reported an operating capacity of 285 and a population of 94, consisting of 83 men and 11 women.
The same audit reported an average sentence length of 18 months. These are historical snapshot facts, not a current count and not an annual release total. Their value is structural: most people in the snapshot were awaiting trial, making bond and court-release channels central, while the DOC-transfer entry demonstrates why departure is not always a community release.

Two Dorchester Release Record Doors
Dorchester County’s local structure differs from the common sheriff-run jail model. The Maryland State Archives says jail oversight moved from the elected Sheriff to a new County Department of Corrections in 1992, when the County Jail became the Detention Center. County Code Chapter 75 places responsibility for lawful commitment, discharge, and release with the Department.
Today, the Sheriff app publishes the current inmate feed. Corrections operates custody. That leaves two useful doors with different purposes: Sheriff search for a present listing and County Corrections for the release transaction. Sending every question to the Sheriff risks obtaining only current-feed information rather than the record that explains the person’s exit.
The live OCV data reinforces this distinction. On the research date, it contained 61 “IN” entries and no release fields. Booked date and identity details can help identify the right booking, but no post-release retention schedule or release archive was published.
Dorchester Releases and ICE Transfers
Dorchester County Detention Center has a documented immigration-custody history. ICE records identify the Center in a 2021 detention-services agreement and a May 2022 inspection. Those dated documents establish a historical channel. They do not prove that the arrangement remained active in 2026.
A person who left Dorchester on an immigration detainer may have transferred into ICE custody. Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System by nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or by exact first and last name, country of birth, and optional birth date. ICE says ODLS includes current detainees and people released from its custody within the prior 60 days. Minors are excluded, spelling must match, and the historical window is limited.
An ICE result concerns ICE, not the meaning of the earlier county exit. A no-result is also not permanent proof of community release. Request the Dorchester movement destination, then use the receiving agency’s own record to determine what happened next.
Federal criminal custody follows another route. The BOP locator applies only when a person served a federal sentence or entered BOP custody, and no BOP prison was identified in Dorchester County. A past release date with “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” confirms departure from BOP only. Federal pretrial movement can involve the U.S. Marshals Service, another contract jail, court, or later BOP designation, so the Dorchester exit record remains the starting point.
Dorchester Release Time and Pickup
No official public instructions were found for release hours, the physical exit door, property pickup after discharge, a family waiting area, or weekend and holiday timing. That schedule belongs to the commissioner, not the jail release desk.
